Today's daybeds
come in a variety of styles from contemporary metal daybeds like
our
Lincoln
Park Daybed, to our very traditional deep cherry wood finish
Maison Phillipe Daybed. A
daybed
frame generally consists of two daybed arms or sides and a
back. The daybed frame is connected by a
daybed
linkspring (shown below.)

The
daybed
linkspring serves two purposes: 1. To connect the two daybed sides and 2.
To support the top mattress. The daybed linkspring acts
like a box spring for your daybed mattress. Other websites
offer an "upgraded" linkspring which has canvas in
place of the metal links that are used on the daybed linkspring
above. For over 10 years, The Sleep Shop has been selling
our daybeds with linkspring like the one above with no problems
whatsoever. In our opinion, the "upgraded"
linkspring offered on other sites is an upgrade in price, not
necessarily in quality.
Daybeds are a great solution for guest rooms with limited space, home
offices that double as guest rooms, and children's rooms. Any of our daybeds can be used with a pop-up trundle, like the
one shown below. A pop-up trundle is a metal bed on
rollers that slides discreetly under the
daybed when not in use. When you need extra sleeping space,
simply roll it out, and pop it up. The
best part? With
the trundle hidden underneath, your
>daybed
will take approximately the same amount of space as a twin size
bed. But when you have guests, you can pull out the pop-up
trundle, and you'll have either two twin size beds or one king
size bed for couples!

Daybeds use
standard twin size mattresses, which measure approximately
39" X 75". Daybeds WILL NOT accommodate twin
extra long mattresses, which measure 39" X 80". When selecting a mattress or mattresses for your daybed, there
are a few things to consider. If you are planning to use
the daybed as a king size bed (with the pop-up trundle directly
beside the daybed), you will need to get two identical
mattresses, one for the daybed and one for the pop-up
trundle. This way, your daybed and pop-up trundle will be
the same height when the pop-up trundle is next to the
daybed. You will need to limit the height of your daybed
mattresses to 8 inches. If you get mattresses that are
thicker than 8 inches, you run the risk of not being able to
easily slide the pop-up trundle under the daybed.
If you are
planning to use your daybed as two twin size beds, you can
select a thicker mattress for the top mattress, but you will
still need to limit the bottom mattress to 8 inches for easy fit
under the daybed.
At The Sleep Shop, our wooden
daybeds come in a variety of fashionable finishes: Our
Seaside
daybed has an antique white finish, our
Landen Cane Daybed
has an antique black painted finish accentuated by cane,
and our
Maison Rustica Daybed has a beautiful medium oak finish.
